Environmental Scientist II – Woodbury, MN

AE2S is seeking an experienced and motivated Environmental Scientist II to join our growing environmental team. In this role, you will independently perform environmental investigations, technical analyses, permitting, regulatory coordination, and documentation to support a variety of public and private sector projects. You will work closely with clients, regulatory agencies, and multidisciplinary project teams while contributing to projects that improve and protect our communities and natural resources.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in environmental science, natural resources, and regulatory compliance, with experience conducting field investigations, preparing technical documentation, and managing project tasks from planning through implementation.

Qualifications

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct wetland delineations, habitat assessments, botanical surveys, water quality monitoring, protected species reviews, and natural resource evaluations to support infrastructure and environmental projects.
• Prepare and manage environmental permitting, regulatory compliance documentation, environmental assessments, mitigation plans, technical reports, and agency correspondence.
• Interpret and apply local, state, and federal environmental regulations, coordinating directly with regulatory agencies to support project approvals and compliance requirements.
• Analyze environmental data and evaluate project impacts, developing avoidance, minimization, mitigation, restoration, and monitoring strategies.
• Collaborate with clients, landowners, contractors, government agencies, and multidisciplinary project teams throughout planning, design, permitting, and construction.
• Support project delivery through environmental monitoring, construction compliance inspections, grant applications, project administration, and technical quality reviews.
• Contribute to business growth by participating in client meetings, proposal development, scope preparation, fee estimates, and relationship-building opportunities.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Ecology, Botany, Soil Science, Hydrology, Natural Resources, Geology, Environmental Studies, or a related field.
• Three to seven years of relevant environmental, natural resource, regulatory, or consulting experience.
• Valid driver's license and ability to meet AE2S driving requirements.
• Ability and willingness to travel and perform fieldwork based on project needs.

Preferred Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of environmental science, natural resources, environmental permitting, and regulatory compliance.
• Experience conducting field investigations and translating findings into clear, actionable recommendations.
• Ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines while maintaining high-quality technical work.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively with clients, regulatory agencies, and project teams.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to walk up to 3-miles on uneven terrain 
• Ability to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time 
• Occasionally climb, stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist 
• Occasionally lift, carry, push, and pull light to moderate amounts of weight 
• May require lifting and carrying up to 20 pounds, with rare lifting of up to 50 pounds 
• Ability to inspect equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects. 
• May be required to wear Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) including but not limited to, flame resistant clothing, hard hat, and protective footwear 
• May require occasional evenings and weekends with overtime expectations varying with workload 
• May be required to travel to off-site locations including occasional overnight stays out of town

Compensation and Total Rewards
The anticipated salary range for this position is:

• $70,000-$95,000  
  • This salary range represents AE2S's good-faith estimate at the time of posting. Actual compensation will be determined based on factors such as experience, technical expertise, licensure, certifications, education, geographic location, internal equity, and business needs.
